Cabins

On her Indonesia scuba diving liveaboard safaris – Mermaid I comfortably sleeps 15 guests in her classy 8 ensuite cabins (1 master state, 1 single & 4 deluxe on the main deck and 2 budget cabins on the lower deck) all of which have hot water showers, toilet and a sink. Featuring air-conditioning, either a double, single or twin bed (depending on cabin) as well as a wardrobe - each cabin also has its own iPad for entertainment, fridge, smoke alarms and comes with bathrobes, hair dryer, complimentary toiletries & daily clean fluffy towels! All these comforts mean that guests will have a luxurious liveaboard stay on their Indonesia liveaboard diving holiday.

Food

Guests will also be treated to five star Indo liveaboard dining - with a combination of Indonesian, Thai, Western cuisine & special BBQ’s served onboard this premier Indonesia diving liveaboard.  Meals are buffet style and are served with ocean views in the indoor “Sawasdee Restaurant” (the name is a reminder from when Mermaid I was also operating in Thailand and was one of the number one Thailand liveaboard dive boats there).

Onboard facilities

From May 2024 Starlink satellite service is available onboard - allowing guests to stay in touch with their loved ones & work remotely. Other noticeable features of this quality Indonesia scuba diving liveaboard are that 15 litre tanks (subject to availability), surface marker buoys and torches are provided free of charge.  EAN liveaboard diving also available (extra charge applies) and high end internet (with free E-Mail allowance) is available onboard too. Additionally, Indonesia underwater photographers are happily catered for, and Mermaid I has large camera tables on the dive deck for preparing and assembling underwater camera/vdo equipment - as well as several fresh water rinse tanks.  All this combined should make any scuba diving trip onboard Mermaid I an Indonesia liveaboard diving vacation to remember, which will be treasured for many years to come!

 

Itineraries

Mermaid I presents Indonesia scuba divers the opportunity to experience the very best liveaboard scuba diving Indonesia has to offer!

With a choice of numerous different, but truly world class Indonesia liveaboard scuba diving itineraries – guests can choose between Komodo liveaboard diving from June to November or Raja Ampat liveaboard dive cruises from November to April.  There are also some five star Indonesia diving liveaboard tours in-between that include Lembeh, Maumere, Alor and the Banda Sea in the itinerary!

At some point during all Komodo diving liveaboard safaris – guests will have the chance to go ashore on Loh Liang Komodo National Park and walk along some short trails to catch a glimpse of the world’s largest lizard - the Komodo Dragon.

  • Mermaid I KOMODO Liveaboard Trip Schedule (all diving cruises start and finish Benoa Harbour, Bali)

    Departs approx 16.00pm, 1st day from Benoa Harbour, Bali

    Free land transfers are provided on the day of departure from Guest Hotels ONLY in South Bali (Sanur, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Benoa and Seminyak) - as well as Denpasar International Airport (DPS) to the premium Bali liveaboard Mermaid I.

    Returns 08.00am, last day Benoa Harbour, Bali

    After breakfast and saying a final goodbye to the Mermaid I crew and new friends, complimentary transfers are provided from this high class Komodo scuba diving liveaboard to Denpasar International Airport (DPS) for those heading home OR Sanur, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Benoa and Seminyak Hotels ONLY for those continuing their Indonesia diving holiday in Bali.

    Last dive ends early afternoon on the second-to-last day

    This allows the minimum pre-flight surface interval of 18 hours before flying after diving the next day. Guests can then spend their final hours onboard this premier Bali diving liveaboard chilling out and taking it easy.

    Day 1 = (0 dives) 13.00 - 15.00pm check in onboard the luxury Komodo liveaboard Mermaid I, safety & boat briefing, cabin allocation and equipment set-up. Dinner is served while this top class Bali scuba diving liveaboard sails into the sunset for an overnight cruise to North-West Sumbawa – destination Moyo island.

    Day 2 = (3 dives) Dive 1 at Angel Reef with Frogfish, Nudibranchs, Dog tooth tunas and Eels. Guests then have a chance to visit a local village on Moyo Island before lunch. Dive 2 is at Satonda Island for some quality Indonesia macro diving, followed by very good Indonesia night diving here before dinner! Sail overnight to the North Coast of Sumbawa to Sangeang Volcano.

    Day 3 = (4 dives) 2-3 dives around the amazing black sands of Sangeang Volcano, with it’s underwater hot springs. A favourite with Indonesia underwater photographers, it is possible to spot Pygmy seahorses, rare Nudibranchs, Leaf scorpionfish & Blue ribbon eels here! Night dive here/Gili Banta to maybe spot a Coral catshark…

    Day 4 = (4 dives) Dive 1 at the five star Indonesia dive site Gili Banta – famous for it’s pelagic fish and sharks! Then it’s into Komodo National Park for Dives 2 & 3 for some world class Indo liveaboard diving at either Taka Toko (Grey reef sharks & Dolphins), Lighthouse Reef/Old Passage (maybe Mantas) or Crystal Rock (Sharks & Turtles). Top Komodo night diving at Pink Beach.

    Day 5 = (3 dives) Shore visit to Loh Liang Komodo National Park for a bit of light trekking to spot the famous locals - Komodo dragons! Dive 1 at Padar Island in search of Frogfish & Nudibranch, before sailing onto Horseshoe Bay at Rinja Island. 2 fantastic dives at Cannibal Rock offering awesome Komodo macro diving - as well as a spectacular array of corals, reef fish and chances for Turtles & Cuttlefish and the very unusual “Sea apple”! Spot dragons, wild pigs & monkeys on the shore, and if you are very lucky you might even spot Dolphins or Whales feeding in the bay!

    Day 6 = (4 dives) Perhaps 4 of the best Indonesia dives, with dive 1 & 2 at Yellow Wall - with its stunning yellow soft corals and perhaps the chance to see yellow Pygmy seahorses! Dive 3 at Nusa Kode - fingers crossed for some Komodo shark diving with Whitetip reef sharks! Flores night diving at Torpedo Alley for Electric rays and some weird and wonderful critters!

    Day 7 = (4 dives) Dive 1 at one of the best Indonesia Manta ray dive sites Manta Alley - to watch the breathtaking Mantas on show at the cleaning stations here! Dive 2 & 3 at either Loh Serah/Tatawa Kecil/Batu Bolong offering first class Komodo drift diving with hopefully big fish, Sharks and Turtles! Night dive at Gili Darat - with its Stonefish, Spanish dancers and maybe sleeping Turtles…

    Day 8 = (3 dives) Five star Flores diving – where if you are lucky you can see sharks (Grey reef and Whitetip reef sharks) in the clear blue waters of Gili Lawa Laut, Tatawa Kecil & Gili Darat! Night dive before sailing overnight back to Satonda & Sumbawa.

    Day 9 = (2 dives) At Sumbawa and Moyo Islands for some high quality Indo scuba diving with chances to spot Ribbon eels, Ghost pipefish, Cuttlefish and Turtles. R & R time while cruising overnight to Benoa, South Bali.

    Day 10 = (0 dives) 08.00am - After breakfast and after saying farewell to the crew & fellow guests - complimentary transfers are provided from this top class Komodo diving liveaboard to either Denpasar International Airport (DPS) OR Hotels in South Bali.

Once everyone has checked in and after the safety & boat briefing have been completed this premier Sorong diving liveaboard will set sail for an overnight cruise to Misool. Please note that due to the sheer number of dive sites and 5 star Raja Ampat liveaboard diving everywhere, that it is almost impossible to put together a daily dive itinerary. The following itinerary is therefore for example purposes only…..

    Day 2 - 4 (12 dives) Misool area for some top quality West Papua scuba diving at Sagof, Wagma & Farondi Islands, Wailbatan and Warakaret Island, Kalig and Pele Islands. Impossibly beautiful corals, the realm to see Pygmy seahorses, pinnacles, blue water mangroves and more varieties of reef fish than anywhere in the world!

    Day 5 - 8 (16 dives) Are spent at some of the following world class Raja Ampat dives sites …… Fiabacet and Farondi Islands – with time for sightseeing around the beautiful lagoons here before heading to Waigeo Island further north. Batanta Island and its black sands for some amazing “Indonesia muck diving”. Dampier Strait - an awesome place to see Mantas and do some Raja Ampat macro diving for small stuff such as Pontohi Pygmy seahorses and Pipefish! The small island of Arborek for some more excellent Four Kings macro dives with Nudibranchs, Signal gobies and more Pygmies! Kawe Island and the pearls at Alyui Bay, which has the best Indonesia night dives with Wobbegongs, Frogfish, Toadfish and the Epaulette shark! Yanggefo Island for stunning soft corals and thousands of reef fish.

    Day 9 = (2 dives) At the Strait of Dampier. R & R time on the journey back to Sorong.     Day 1 = (0 - 2 dives) Due to flights arriving throughout the day - guests are free to board the high class Indonesia liveaboard Mermaid I anytime during the check-in window (varies depending on port of embarkation). Check in, safety & boat briefing before setting sail on an overnight journey to the Dampier Strait.

    Day 2 - 4 (11 dives) Diving on these days will between Waigeo Island, The Bird’s Head Peninsula and the Northern side of Batanta Island - also known as the ‘Dampier Strait’. Featuring some of the most wicked diving Indonesia has to offer, divers will be spoilt for choice at the variety of five star Raja Ampat scuba diving on offer & what can be seen here – with chances to dive with Manta Rays, Wobbegongs, Bumphead parrotfish, Nudibranchs and Pygmy seahorses to name a few! The Dampier Strait also has world-class Raja Ampat night diving with Frogfish, Toadfish and Epaulette Sharks. Between dives - guests will have the chance to go ashore and walk along pristine bounty advert like beaches, as well visit a few traditional Papuan Villages and meet the locals! At the end of day 4 – this very comfortable Indonesia diving liveaboard will cruise overnight to Misool.

    Day 5 - 6 (7 dives) The next two days of the trip will be spent diving around the countless top dive sites of Misool (there are literally 100’s!). A truly wonderful place for Raja Ampat underwater photography – Misool has the world’s most beautiful soft corals, which are carpeted in Snappers, Jacks, Barracudas and schooling fish! In-between the 5 star West Papua diving there will be the chance to explore breathtaking inner lagoons, enjoy the scenery and see some wildlife. Sail overnight to Pulau Koon, Ceram.

    Day 7 (3 dives) At Pulau Koon, which is in the middle of Raja Ampat and the Banda Islands. High quality Indonesia diving with soft coral walls and sandy slopes decorated with hard corals - with A LOT of schooling fish! Overnight journey to Manuk.

    Day 8 (4 dives) This is the domain of the Sea snake. Famous for it’s Indonesia sea snake dives, Manuk – is an extinct volcano South of the Banda Islands and is one of the only two places in Indo where Sea snakes amass in huge numbers!! Banda Sea divers will have an unforgettable experience totally surrounded by and diving with Chinese sea snakes and Banded sea kraits!! Mermaid I will then cruise onto the Banda Islands.

    Day 9 - 10 (7 dives) At the Banda Islands, which were also once known as the Spice Islands. World class Banda Sea diving – with, pinnacles, swim-throughs, amazing Indonesia wall diving, magical hard coral reefs and Banda Sea muck diving – with lots of fish, tuna’s and even Mandarin fish! Will also go ashore for a full cultural experience of the Banda Islands historical past.

    Day 11 (2 dives) The final day of the Indonesia biodiversity liveaboard safari will be spent diving at the awesome Nusa Laut for it’s pretty hard corals & walls OR at the best dive sites Ambon has to offer – with its simple Indonesia wreck diving, cave diving and muck diving – with Frogfish, Harlequin shrimps & many more……

    Day 12 = (0 dives) 08.00am - After breakfast and after saying farewell to the crew & fellow guests - complimentary transfers are provided from this popular Indo liveaboard to either the local Airport or guest Hotels.

  • COVID-19 Indonesia Travel Information

    From the 10th of June 2023 onwards – visitors are no longer required to provide any proof of vaccination for international arrivals and domestic travel within Indonesia

    Additionally, the Indonesian Government has also extended Visa On Arrival (VOA) to 86 Nationalities who are eligible to enter Indonesia without a visa for up to 30 days, as well as the Visa Exemption Arrangement (VEA) to more ASEAN members. For a complete list of countries and special entities for VOA and VEP please double check with your local Embassy of Indonesia.

    Citizens from Countries/Territories NOT on these lists must apply for and be granted an eVISA (B211A) online BEFORE flying to Indonesia.

    Please Note: Pre travel to Indonesia post COVID-19 – ALL visitors MUST:

    1. Have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months, that it is in good order, has enough available pages and that you are allowed to enter Indonesia. Please check with your local Indonesia Embassy if you are not sure.

    2. Have proof (paper based AND digital) of a return ticket OR a one-way ticket to continue your journey to another country for (VOA & eVISA holders).

    Please note:

    *Fuel Surcharges. Due to rising fuel costs - effective for ALL trips in 2024, Mermaid I and II are obliged to add on a fuel surcharge of EUROs 20 PER day for all guests, groups and private charters. However, this fuel surcharge has been removed from 2025.

    *Mermaid Liveaboards reserve the right to reinstate a fuel surcharge at any time dependent on global fuel price increases.

    Scuba Diving Insurance is compulsory for ALL Mermaid I liveaboard diving tours. We would also strongly recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance. If you have neither comprehensive travel insurance or diving insurance then you MUST look at obtaining your own comprehensive scuba dive, accident, medical, baggage and trip cancellation/interruption insurance prior to joining an Indonesia diving liveaboard safari.

    Dive computers are compulsory for your safety on ALL Mermaid I scuba diving liveaboard cruises. If you do not have a dive computer then one can be rented onboard for 10 EUROs per day.

    PADI scuba diving courses are available onboard all Indonesia scuba diving liveaboard trips, and guests can partake in EAN Nitrox, Advanced Open Water, and the Specialty Courses: Digital Underwater Photographer, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Deep Diver, Drift Diver, Night Diver, Underwater Naturalist during their Indonesian liveaboard dive tour.

    For all Komodo liveaboard diving safaris it is highly recommended that guests spend one night in Bali BEFORE the trip – in case of unforeseeable flight/luggage delays.

    For Raja Ampat diving liveaboard cruises, we strongly recommend that guests spend one night in a local hotel in Jakarta/Makassar/Manado before their flight the next day – in case of unforeseeable flight/luggage delays.

    Generally for all Mermaid liveaboard trips, it is highly advised that guests spend one night at the international airport arrival destination or port of embarkation/disembarkation BEFORE and AFTER the trip - in case of any unforeseeable flight/luggage delays or flight cancellations.
