Cabins

The Junk very comfortably sleeps a maximum of 18 guests on her high quality Thailand diving liveaboard safaris. There are 6 ensuite cabins (2 double, 2 triple and 2 quad) – all of which are located on the lower deck.  Each rustic cabin retains a lot of charm and features lovely warm wooden interiors and air conditioning.  All cabins also have their own private bathrooms with hot water shower & toilet, which should mean guests have a top Thailand scuba diving liveaboard cruise on this Chinese Junk dive boat!

The Junk offers Similan scuba divers the chance to dive the best Thailand dive sites by way of liveaboard diving sailing ship.  

From mid October until early May, liveaboard divers can choose between two high-class Thailand scuba diving liveaboard itineraries -  with either 4D/4N Similan-Richelieu Rock diving OR 6D/6N Similan-Surin Islands diving tours available.

No Similans diving safari on this old world traditional Chinese Junk Thailand diving liveaboard would be complete without a trip to a picturesque desert island.  Guests will therefore have the opportunity when diving the Similans to make land excursions to unspoiled beautiful beaches and viewpoints to enjoy breathtaking views of Thailand’s top dive destination – the Similan Islands!

  • The Junk SIMILAN - RICHELIEU ROCK Liveaboard Trip Schedule (all 4D/4N dive trips start and finish at Tap Lamu Pier, Khao Lak, Phang Nga).

    Departs around 19.00pm, 1st day from Tap Lamu Pier, Khao Lak, Phang Nga

    Courtesy transfers to this premier Richelieu diving liveaboard are available from Phuket/Khao Lak Hotels/Phuket Airport, but only at fixed times on the cruise departure day.

    Returns around 14.00pm, last day Tap Lamu Pier, Khao Lak, Phang Nga

    After saying sayonara to The Junk’s crew and the other passengers onboard – land transfers are arranged to Khao Lak/Phuket Hotels courtesy of this exclusive Similan Islands diving liveaboard.

    Last dive ends by 12.00pm on the last day

    Please note that if guests are flying on the same day The Junk luxury Phuket diving liveaboard returns to Port, then they must miss the last two dives of the trip. This is in order to meet flying after diving recommendations, which stipulate a minimum pre-flight surface interval of at least 18 hours.

    Departure Day = (0 dives) Guest transfers are arranged for between 15.00 – 18.00pm, with the exact pick-up time depending on hotel location. However all guests will board the awaiting medium/high budget Similan liveaboard The Junk by 18.00pm. Warm welcome, meet the crew, yacht safety briefing, cabin allocation and dinner – before sailing overnight to the Similans on this high-end Thailand liveaboard.

    Day 1 = (4 dives) Three day dives at the top Similan dive sites of Boulder City, Sharkfin Reef, Anita’s Reef or Honeymoon Bay. Similans sunset dive or night dive.

    Day 2 = (4 dives) Usually a dive is done at one of the best Similan dive sites Elephant Head Rock, before heading up to Koh Bon and Koh Tachai – the top Thailand dive sites for Manta Rays (need to be lucky though!). Night dive.

    Day 3 = (4 dives) The day will usually be spent diving at Koh Tachai and the number one Thailand dive site Richelieu Rock, which if lady luck is on your side are perhaps Thailand’s best Whale Shark dive sites!

    Day 4 = (2 dives) Usually one dive at Koh Bon – fingers crossed for a Thailand Manta Ray dive, before finishing with a final dive on a Khao Lak Wreck (either Boonsung or Premchai). The Junk will then head for Port, with an ETA of 14.00pm. Guests will then be transferred from this top class Similan diving liveaboard to their Khao Lak/Phuket Hotels.

    Arrives around 10.00am, last day Tap Lamu Pier, Khao Lak, Phang Nga

    After saying a final goodbye to both guests and crew – land transfers are provided without charge from this premium Thailand scuba diving liveaboard to Khao Lak and Phuket Hotels.

    Last dive ends by 15.00pm on the last day

    This means that the minimum recommended pre-flight surface interval of 18 hours before flying after diving the next day is safely met.

    The Junk’s 6 days/6 nights Similan liveaboard cruises offer the same daily dive timetable as the 4 days/4 nights trips previously described. However, the 6 days/6 nights itinerary gives guests the precious commodity of time, which means more dives and more dive time at Thailand’s best dive sites!

    This extended itinerary also includes dives at the Surin Islands, which many Similan liveaboards do not dive at due to their more remote location. Thailand liveaboard divers will therefore get to avoid the crowds and dive the five star Surin Islands, which have some of the best coral reefs Thailand has to offer!

    Departure Day = (0 dives) Hotel transfers are scheduled for between 15.00 – 18.00pm (pick-up times vary according to Hotel location) with all guests arriving at The Junk Similan liveaboard by approx 18.00pm. Once onboard guests will receive a very warm welcome, yacht safety briefing, crew introduction and be shown to their cabins before being served dinner.

    This classy mid range Thailand diving liveaboard will then cruise overnight to the Similan Islands.

    Day 1 = (4 dives) Three day dives at the some of the best Similan dive sites such as Sharkfin Reef, Boulder City, Anita’s Reef or Honeymoon Bay. Sunset or Similan night dive.

    Day 2 = (4 dives) A dive or two at the one of the top Similan dive sites Elephant Head Rock, before sailing up to Koh Bon/Koh Tachai – probably the best places to see Manta Rays in Thailand! Night dive.

    Day 3 = (4 dives) The day will usually begin at Koh Tachai followed by five star diving at Thailand’s best dive site Richelieu Rock, which is also probably the number one Thailand Whale shark diving site!

    Day 4 = (4 dives) A day of top quality liveaboard diving the Surin Islands, which have Thailand’s greatest variety of hard corals.

    Day 5 = (3 dives) Dives are usually at Koh Tachai or Koh Bon, finishing with a good Khao Lak Wreck dive at either the Boonsung or Premchai Wrecks before heading for home.

    Day 6= (0 dives) After breakfast – it will be time to say ciao to The Junk crew and fellow dive buddies before checking out just before 10am. Transfers will then be provided from this high end Similan-Surin diving liveaboard to guest Hotels.

  • COVID-19 Thailand Travel Information

    From the 1st of July 2022 onwards – visitors will only be required to show proof of their vaccination history when entering the Kingdom of Thailand. If you are unable to provide either proof of your vaccination history OR a negative ATK test result, then you can still gain entry into Thailand, but may be subject to an on arrival ATK test.

    Please Note:

    You are personally responsible for making sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months, has enough available pages, is in good order and that you are allowed to enter the Kingdom of Thailand. If you are unsure please check with your local Thai Consulate.

    At the time of writing (July 2022) Citizens from MOST (but not all) countries in Europe, North America, Oceania and South East Asia are eligible to enter Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days.

    However Citizens from some Countries/Territories may only be granted stays for up to 15 days, or may be required to obtain a Tourist Visa before arriving in Thailand. Visitors are therefore strongly advised to check with their local Thai Consulate if in doubt.

    If you are unsure of your Thai Visa requirements – then please double check with your local Thai Consulate.

    Proof of onward travel and sufficient funds for the duration of your stay may be required by Thai Immigration on arrival.

    At their discretion - Immigration officials may ask you for proof of onward travel (i.e. a confirmed return or onward air ticket out of Thailand). They may also ask you to provide evidence that you have sufficient funds for the duration of your stay, which is deemed to be at least 10,000 Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per Family (or equivalent in another currency) for Visa on Arrival visitors.

    Dive Computers are obligatory on ALL Junk liveaboard diving safaris for diver safety. If guests do not have their own dive computer, then one can be rented onboard for US$8 per day.

    Scuba Diving Insurance is required for ALL Junk liveaboard dive tours. We would also strongly suggest that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance. If you do NOT have comprehensive travel insurance or diving insurance then you MUST purchase your own comprehensive scuba diving, accident, medical, baggage and trip cancellation/interruption insurance in advance of joining your Similan Islands diving liveaboard dive trip.

    Please kindly note that the free transfers from/to Phuket are based on a SHARED minibus transfer.  Guests therefore need to be aware that this involves a long journey time of around two hours - as multiple pick-ups/drop-offs are done at different Phuket Hotel locations.  Of course - if you do not like the sound of this(?) and would prefer to have a private transfer from your Hotel location to/from the boat, then this can easily be arranged for an additional private transfer surcharge. Please let us know at the time of the booking if you would prefer a private transfer (additional surcharge applies) and we can happily arrange this for you.
